It's the third day of the No Sweets Challenge! How are you holding up? Susuko na ba?
Laarni sums it all in 3 simple reasons. Letting go of sweets will actually be beneficial to our health in the long run; it would reduce our risk to developing Type 2 Diabetes, high triglyceride levels, and we can also keep our beautiful smiles when we grow old. It is also in line for those who are trying to lose weight. Sugary snacks and drinks are most of the time, higher in calories than if you choose a fresh and natural snack.
The photo above (from the Food and Nutrition Research Institute) shows what we should typically consume in a day. Notice that sugars and sweets belong in the top; the ones we should consume the least.
A healthy diet can only include 5-7 tsps of sugar a day. Do you know that a glass of soda (about 8 oz) contains 5 tsps of sugar already? Filipinos are even used to drink soda with donuts, kakanin, and banana cue for example. Imagine the sugar you are already overconsuming without even realizing it.
Being a sweet tooth is not just an attitude, or a habit. It's a lifestyle that has a deadly price if you continue it for long.
