 Teen Angst

When I was a teenager, I was especially angsty. I was always getting into trouble or getting into fights with my Mom, it got to a point where I was grounded practically all the time. Looking back, I don't know what I was so angry about exactly. I was given everything I wanted, but I guess I always wanted more- brat!

I was telling a co-worker about it yesterday, and she said that she experienced the same thing. She hated the world, and the world hated her. Teenage angst is quite common, thanks to a bunch of raging hormones, pressure from school and parents and most importantly, peer pressure. You have this new body you aren't used to (hello, puberty) and thanks to popular culture, if you aren't wearing the latest, you'll probably be laughed at. That desperate need to fit in is definitely an issue for most teenagers, causing anxiety and sometimes even depression.

When dealing with a teenager, take all these things into consideration and keep your cool. Be patient.  Remember, you were a teenager once too.

I was a moody beeyatch when I was in high school, I'd always lock myself in my room except when it was time to eat, and I hated everyone (even my own brothers) except for my friends, who in turn hated everyone else too that wasn't in our barkada. We totally had those "queen bees" in our high school. So when I graduated, I thought a change of scenery would do me well for college, so I chose a college far, far away from my high school. I became happy and nicer in college. =)

Me too. High school days are really a big pressure for teens especially that I am overly obese those years. Trying to fit in to those teens groups and cultures was also one dilemma I dealt with. It was hard finding your identity and worth as a diligent student, a good daughter, and a good friend during the teenage years.

One thing i remember about teens from dev psych is the word "invincible". Emotions are at an all time high (oh yes, i know exactly what that feels like) and depression hits its highest numbers. Sometimes angst is all just one big ball of emotion and energy that doesnt know where to put itself.

Great entry! :)
