When my mother walks into a room, you can't help but stare. Impeccably dressed, heeled, decked in jewelry with barely there makeup, she is the type of woman that wears heels even at home. I've seen her feet touch the floor maybe four times in my life (no exaggeration). She also looks about 20 years younger than she actually is thanks to good genes, her petite stature and the smattering of freckles on her face. Time and time again, I've disappointed many male friends after telling them that my mom is in fact, my mother and not my sister.
Over the years, my mom's given me some pretty great advice about life, love, beauty and style. I thought I'd share some of it with you guys :
1) It is better to be overdressed than underdressed
My mom says, "When in doubt, it is better to be overdressed than underdressed." If you are overdressed (overdressed, not ostentatious), at least you look presentable and people will talk about you- in a good way.
2) It isn't polite to talk about money
Talking about money and bragging about how much your outfit costs is just tacky. Keep it classy and keep it to yourself.
3)Never let yourself go
Always work out, eat in moderation (never deprive yourself of anything!)
4)Always look your best
First impressions are always important - make sure you always make a good one. Wear makeup, heels and proper fitting clothes.
5)Eat whatever you want - life is too short
Indulge in sweets and fried food every once in awhile, but, like all things,do it in moderation.
6)Wear clothes that are flattering to your body type
Even if something is in fashion, it doesn't necessarily mean that it will suit you. Stick to shapes that are best suited for your body type (eg. boot cut jeans for wide hips, etc)
Even though we argue at times, it seems that mother really does know best.
Do you have any particular bits of advice from your mom that you'd like to share?
