A few years ago, I decided that I would stop buying presents for friends. I discovered that not only was I bad at giving gifts, but I had huge piles of gifts hat would end up being given away or kept in storage for possible future use (you never know when you might need a heart shaped beer mug) - probably the same thing that my friends were doing with their gifts from me.
So, instead of collecting and giving "clutter", I decided that I would give my friends the Gift of Time. As absurd as it may sound, the gift of time is probably one of the most thoughtful gifts you could give. What could be more personal than treating your friend to a lovely meal or even just a simple cup of coffee and dedicating a few hours of your time to them. Imagine all the things you could talk about, the gossip you could catch up on.. the possibilties are endless.
As we all know, the older we get, the more important time becomes- simply because it seems like there is never too much of it. You're always busy doing something- work, school, going to the gym, taking care of the kids, paying bills, going to the grocery. Time really flies.
This Christmas, why don't you try something different. Take my cue and give someone you care about the gift of time. It just might be exactly what your friendship needed.
