 Back From a Hiatus

Oh wow. It's been awhile. How is everybody? I'll be sure to go thru the forums and peeps' blogs to get me some updates.

So, I left off promising to post about workouts next. I had scheduled future posts around this theme complete with step-by-step tuts and tips culled from fitness research done online and fitness books I have at home.

Instead, I took a 3-week hiatus. So, to share a little of what my past weeks have been like, here's a short rundown:

  • I have a new project. Sweet!
  • I've been waking very early to go jogging (though was unable to maintain this for long because of what happened next)
  • I've been staying up late to work on said project
  • I did a lot of errands that were on my very long laundry list
  • I'm overhauling my website: slushd.com
  • My laptop went on the fritz and got turned over to AppleCare. Boo.

The new project involves the upcoming Masskara festival this October. Masskara, for those who are unfamiliar, is an annual week-long festival of Negros celebrated in Bacolod City, my hometown. It coincides with Oktoberfest so the entire festival turns into a non-stop week-long street party.

I did some shoe shopping for my new workout resolution. I used to prioritize getting nice jogging pants and cute socks over getting proper jogging shoes since they tend to be triple the price of a standard pair of Nike jogging pants, which are already considerably pricey.

Luckily, Nike were on sale and I got a really good deal with these shoes:

It was the last pair and I hesitated since it was also the display item and the paranoid hypochondriac in me was screaming: "GERMS! Get away!"

But as you can see from the above photo I successfully taped my inner worry-wart's mouth and got the shoes anyway.  It also comes with Nike+ which I'm saving up for.

It's been my experience that jogging=pain with a capital P. I've been told before that the wrong pair of shoes could be the culprit and an article from belletoday just reminded me how much impact your choice of footwear can have on your workout.

Here's a shot of my old pair. It's a little dirty. Eeeps.

I chose my old pair based on looks not on function (they looked really nice brand new.) They're not even meant for working out. It's just your standard sneakers good for everyday usage, the sole on this pair doesn't flex as well and the entrada is too narrow for my feet causing me cramping pain 15 minutes into my jog. Boo.

But when I first used the pink pair pictured above...sigh. Pain-free at last! I felt like jogging forever. The shoes were so light each step felt like I was walking with kid boots on (though I've never actually worn kid boots, I imagine this was how it would feel like).

It got me so excited I couldn't wait to go jogging the next day.

Except.

Rain.

Hello rain.

Over the last three weeks, I've gone jogging 4 times and walking even less. I previously posted about my daily walks to and fro the office. I've been cabbing it a lot lately to avoid the daily rain showers. The one time I tried to walk home with light rain, the wind was so strong I ended up stowing away my umbrella and walking bare-headed and I got so used to cabbing it that even on sunny days I'd still take a cab. Predictively, this caused me to regain the pounds I previously lost. I could just cry.

On the bright side, I got my laptop parts back from the service center tonight. Yay! I can finally blog again! I've been borrowing J's laptop for short spurts whenever I really, really need to do something important on the computer.

And J surprised me with flowers earlier, making today one of the best Mondays of this month.

Today was actually sunnier than usual so tomorrow if the sunny weather holds, I'm going jogging again. Also, my office is getting everybody surfing lessons on Wednesday which is more incentive to workout. I'll be sure to keep you guys posted! Hugs!

We trained with Paolo and EJ. Surfers are so hawt. Hahaha! I'll ask them about Lorraine next time.

You should totally take a class yourself. I think it's totally right up your alley. ^_^

Whoa neat! Congrats on being able to stand on the board! =D If you're training with Lorraine at PSA, she was my friend from back in grade school. Wala lang. ;)

@vic: Thanks! I'm not yet sure if I'm gonna make it for the festival but I'm super stoked with the project I'm working on for it.

Yep, it's PSA. We went to CME to train yesterday. I went through so many wipeouts but man it felt exhilarating to finally stand on that board! I'm feeling the burn today. Hahahaha!

@tanya: Ohhh...lucky you! Thanks! I must confess I haven't been a good townie these past few years. E kasi, I get bug eyed when the mid-year sales arrive. A haze comes over me and when it clears all future travel plans have to be relegated to next year. Hehe...he...>_<

I'll be going to Masskara too this year! It'll be my third year in a row. So much fun there! I'm all booked with my flight and hotel and I'm so ready for October to come.

Welcome back!

Welcome back! ;) Wow, I'm sure you'll have fun with the Masskara Festival + Oktoberfest!

Awfully nice of your boy, and...cute new sneakers! <3 Although, yeah, the rain's been hampering any chance of outdoor activities for us, unfortunately. It doesn't seem to rain as much early in the morning, but because of the cold weather, even I have trouble getting up. I can relate. ;)

Are the surfing lessons with the Philippine Surfing Academy?

Hi Willah! Yep. I was born and raised in Bacolod. My Dad's Tagalog though and I have both sides of the family here in Manila. I studies at UPD and relocated here after graduation. Though I still go home during holidays.

Are you also from the Visayas area? :)
