Gluten-Free Meals on PAL (part 1)

I ordered a special meal for my flight again; this time, I chose the gluten-free meal. This is primarily aimed at those with gluten intolerance or Celiac disease. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley, so this meant that nothing in my meal should have contained flour. I mainly ordered it to avoid the usual refined carb-heavy airline meals. Also, I got to gloat to my family that I got my food first. Today, I'll share what I had on my flight to L.A. I still haven't uploaded the pictures from the flight back to Manila.

For dinner, I had beef cooked in tomato sauce with squash and rice. I also had an asparagus and tomato salad, and fresh fruit for dessert. The regular meals were a choice of fish or chicken, and blueberry cheesecake from Goldilocks for dessert. I envied my family for their blueberry cheesecake, until I stole a taste for myself. It was like swallowing a spoonful of sugar with graham cracker crust. Not cool. I paired dinner with a glass of red wine. The flight attendant asked me if I was over 18, because I look young. Bless her.

My snack while I watched my inflight movies of G.I Joe: Rise of Cobra and The Proposal was more fresh fruit. A LOT of fresh fruit, like grapes the size of ping pong balls, cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon, and pineapple. The rest got Goldilocks cake slices.

For breakfast, I got bacon, an omelet, more squash, and garlic rice. The others got a choice of chicken tocino with rice or veal sausage and bacon. And then they gave me even more fresh fruit, including this giant banana.

I initially wanted to order the low-fat meal like last year, but I knew it would be hypocritical, knowing what I'd eat while on vacation!

Same here, I can't imagine my life to be completely without bread, pasta, and pizza.... Although they can be made gluten-free too, it just won't be the same.
Maybe I'll try one of the vegetarian meals next time. =)

The food doesn't look bad at all. Having a gluten-free meal would not be that hard to do but I just can't give up my pandesal (whole wheat that is) and even whole grain pasta. It's good that you got the gluten-free meal though on the plane to cut down a little on the carbs. When I flew PAL I opted for the vegetarian meal which was delicious and even got a lot of extra fruit like you did.
